Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including a heart attack or near drowning, in which a person has stopped breathing.

When the heart stops, lack of oxygenated blood can cause brain damage in only a few short minutes and cause death within 8 to 10 minutes. CPR can keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other organs until more definitive medical treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, nearly half a million Americans die from a cardiac arrest every year and more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year.

In the event of a cardiac arrest, an automated external defibrillator (AED) can aid is saving a life. However, only about a quarter of Americans say there is an AED at their workplace.

Effective CPR and AED care can more than double a person’s chance of survival. A person faced with an emergency such as a heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, or choking may be saved if someone at the scene have had the lifesaving skills and techniques that can be acquired through CPR training.

ACLS course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

This class is for or healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies and for personnel in emergency response.

This course teaches:

Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED

Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest

Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia

Airway management

Management of ACS and stroke

Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team

PALS courses are designed for professional healthcare providers who participate in the assessment and management of critical patients, including those working in in-hospital, pre-hospital, and out-of-hospital medical facilities. The only prerequisite for enrollment is that you must be proficient in pediatric basic life support (BLS) skills.

Throughout your PALS course, you'll learn to assess, recognize and provide high-quality care to pediatric patients experiencing life-threatening medical emergencies, including shock, cardiac and respiratory events, as well as how to provide care after the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) during a resuscitation effort. In addition, our course will challenge your critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, and help improve your teamwork skills to provide better patient care.
